Department of Traditional Chinese Musical Instruments
 
 
The department of Traditional Chinese musical instruments was founded in 1958. It has formed a strong team of teachers which is properly at different ages, including 10 professors, 11 associate professors and 10 tutors for masters. There are 12 specialties and 13 sub-specialties. Specialized courses include Ensemble and Orchestra. The four teaching divisions consist of string instruments, plucked instruments, percussion instruments and traditional instrumental ensemble.

For the past four decades, the department has steadily grown through a series of effective educational reforms, and as a result achieved a great progress. Up till now, it has been one of the education and research centers of traditional Chinese musical instruments in north China. The enterprising faculties of the department are dedicated to the cause of perfecting and carrying forward the culture of Chinese folk music. A lot of students have graduated from the department, many of whom are now the core members of musical institutions and artistic organizations in China.

In recent years, the department has derived a lot of experience from teaching practice, and taken a series of measures to explore new ways of cultivating talents. For instance, revising the syllabus, renewing the textbooks, and reforming the methods of examining, on the purpose of promoting practical skills and overall qualities of students.
