The department of Musicology offers master's degrees in Chinese Traditional Music, the History of Chinese Music, the History of Western Music, the Aesthetics of Music, Music Translation, and the Teaching and Research of Musical Theories in Colleges and Universities. Aiming at developing students' solid foundation, high quality, and competent ability, the bachelor's program is dedicated to cultivating the varied talents who possess the higher cultural quality and the capabilities of practice and innovation.
The department includes an excellent set of qualified staff: 6 professors, 2 associate professors (among whom 6 are the tutors of masters), and several lecturers. Over 20 specialized courses are offered in the fields of the history of Chinese and western music, Chinese traditional music, the aesthetics of music, and the theories of composing techniques, in which a major course named the Deliberation on Musical Literature and Thesis Writing is an initiation in China.
The teachers in the department have gained great achievements in their fields, of whom 6 respectively won prizes, including: the State and City Technology Progress Prize, Government Prize, Excellent Teaching Achievement Prize, the Prize of Theses on Chinese Opera music Research. |

| In the course of teaching and research, the whole staff of the department pays close attention to the latest trends and achievements of the academic development at home and abroad. In order to carry out the principle of "going out and inviting in", in the department, a number of academic communicating activities have been successfully held, some renowned scholars are invited to give lectures regularly, and a lot of nationwide famous musicologists are employed to be the invited professors. |
