With the intent of setting up a first-class department, this department has focused on strengthening teaching management, constantly improving teaching quality, and cultivating outstanding students. Periodically the department not only invites noted experts from both home and abroad to lecture and hold master classes, but also hosts international contests. The piano area invites Russian and Ukrainian instructors to teach on a long-term basis to keep pace with the international teaching standards. This program has graduated a large number of outstanding graduates. The accordion major is a unique feature of the department. For example, it was the first to offer rubato bass accordion course, and it has continued to adopt internationally recognized teaching materials and methods. Numerous students from this program have been prize winners in national and international contests. The keyboard department is also among the first to establish in China a performance major in the electone major. After years of efforts, this specialty has developed an integrated curriculum and teaching method.

For years the department has trained many performing talents displaying excellent musicianship, strong technique and professional quality. Many graduates have joined orchestras at the state or provincial level or have become teachers in universities and colleges.
